Ex Cops already revealed that Ariel Pink would be appearing on their forthcoming Daggers, and now the duo have unveiled that Pink-featuring track, which is called "Tragically Alright."
The song is a classic-sounding paisley pop tune with melancholic melodies, a rhythmic chug reminiscent of '90s alt-rock, and harmonies that evoke the Dandy Warhols' "Sleep." Amalie Bruun explained the song's genesis with the following statement:
We went to LA to finish our record with Justin Raisen, and one day Ariel Pink came by the studio. We ended up writing two songs with him, one of which is 'Tragically Alright.' We had quite a rough winter, me in Denmark and Brian in upstate New York, and when we arrived in LA our hotel was named The Vagabond Inn. We thought it was some sort of ironic name for a nice hotel, but it was quite literal and accurate. So when we wrote 'Tragically Alright,' it became a bit of a reflection of our state of minds at that exact time. Ariel invited his friend Don Bolles (drummer of the Germs) to come by and say hi and not only did he stay the whole day, he ended up singing the Beach Boys-esque backing vocals to the track.
Ex Cops will release their album Daggers on October 28 through Downtown Records. Scroll past their tour schedule with Dum Dum Girls to listen.
