The waiting, and The Patience it requires, can wear on Mick Jenkins. Outlining the loose concept of his fourth album, the artist wrote of a frustration experienced in trying to anticipate, if not initiate happenings beyond his own control. It's a relatable feeling best captured by the portrait covering the LP, showing Jenkins with head in hands, looking thoroughly exhausted if not exasperated.

But no matter his feelings, Jenkins understands that power can be found in moving with purpose. Over a lean 11 tracks, it's found in his most urgent vocal delivery in recent memory, driving determined observations on money, clout, authenticity, resilience and ways of coping with the highs and lows. Whether turning up the heat as a rising sous-chef on "Michelin Star," or keeping his pathway clear through the tedium on "Mop," Jenkins eventually expresses in a sampled interview answer how he feels patience is one component of a larger interpersonal journey that shouldn't be rushed. Wherever that excursion leads him, and however long it takes, we'll be waiting.
