The Fall Announce 'Ersatz G.B.'

BY Alex HudsonPublished Sep 8, 2011

Even with 28 LPs already under their belts, we still get excited every time Mancunian post-punks the Fall announce a new album. Now, songwriter Mark E. Smith and his collaborators are getting ready to release album No. 29, Ersatz G.B., via Cherry Red Records.

The record is due out in the UK on November 14, though the North American release date is currently unconfirmed.

UPDATE: The album is due out in North American on December 6 via Cherry Red/MVD.

According to an announcement from the label, the band's latest full-length "retains many of their most distinctive elements whilst offering a fresh take on Mark E Smith's familiar style and subject matter."

Maybe this "fresh take" refers to Smith's previous statement that his new songs sounded like "a Greek heavy metal group." We can only hope.

If you were curious, Merriam-Webster defines "ersatz" as an "artificial and inferior substitute or imitation."

Ersatz G.B. will be available on vinyl, CD and digital formats, and it will be preceded by a seven-inch single featuring an exclusive B-side. To promote to disc, the Fall will be touring the UK. Click here to see the dates and pre-order the album.
