On Tuesday (January 22), Drew Lustman (a.k.a. FaltyDL) released his third LP, Hardcourage. A mixture of sunbaked melodies and brightly-coloured synth-hooks, many are describing the album as his most focused and human-sounding work to date.
Speaking with Exclaim!, Lustman attributes this to falling in love during the writing and recording of Hardcourage. "It was a dedication to her and it was very important for me to finish it," he explains. "The album is called Hardcourage because there was a moment where I didn't even think that I could be with her or finish this album and I decided that I needed the courage."
Following-up Four Tet's superb remix of Hardcourage's lead-off single, "Straight & Arrow," with Gang Gang Dance's off-the-hook reworking of "She Sleeps" (featuring Ed MacFarlane of Friendly Fire on vocals), Lustman tells Exclaim! that Ital, Martyn and Dennis "Dego" McFarlane (of 4Hero) have also given "She Sleeps" the remix treatment.
Furthermore, Lustman hints that his own remix of Dirty Projectors' "The Socialites" will soon see the light of day, and he reveals that he's also finished reworking tracks for Alex Russell, How to Dress Well and José James.
