Fast Romantics are known for their soaring, lofty indie rock, and their video for "Friends" takes a similarly ambitious approach.
The clip for this dramatically lush song from last year's Afterlife Blues is a compilation of advertising footage from the '50s and '60s. Simple enough, right? Think again. Frontman Matthew Angus edited it together so it actually looks like all the actors are lip-syncing the lyrics, and a few of the key phrases are inserted into the packaging of the on-screen products.
An announcement explains, "The song is about living in a world where it feels like so many friendships and relationships are really just exchanges, selfish transactions between two people looking to get something for themselves. Sometimes it feels like people are just trying to sell you something. So we thought... what better way to introduce the song to the world than to get 50 advertising men from the '50s and '60s to sell the song to planet earth for us?"
