Fatboy Slim is apparently more popular in Brazil than anywhere else in the world, and the famed British dance producer also known as Norman Cook is paying tribute to the nation with his upcoming compilation Bem Brasil. It will be out on June 3 through Astralwerks.
Bem Brasil roughly translates as "Very Brazil," and it's being presented as an unofficial soundtrack to the World Cup (which will take place in Brazil between June and July of this year). According to a press release, "[It] will be one of the hottest albums of the summer, and may even feature some new material from the man himself."
This summery collection features contributions from some of Fatboy's electronic music peers, including DJ Fresh, Gregor Salto, Psychemagik, Eats Everything, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Claude Von Stroke, Joey Negro, Felguk and Carl Cox. Some of the songs are based around samples of Brazilian tracks, while others are inspired by the country's music more generally.
Fatboy said in a statement, "Given my love of Brazilian music, parties and football it is no surprise that with World Cup happening this year I want to share that love by providing a soundtrack for the summer, based on Brazilian music."
For a taste of what the album has to offer, check out the video for Gregor Salto's track "Samba Do Mundo" below. The tune features Saxsymbol and Todorov.
In other news, the previously announced cast album for Here Lies Love — Fatboy Slim's musical about Imelda Marcos, created with David Byrne — will be out through Nonesuch Records/Todo Mundo on April 22.
