Tragi-comic West Coast balladeer Father John Misty has added another layer of weirdness to his career by weighing in on the state of the U.S. for Adult Swim's non-sequitur-driven Brad Neely's Harg Nallin' Sclopio Peepio program.

The low-key "This Is America" finds the animated beardo acting as a news anchor, first reporting on the death of a Batman wannabe that died with his penis out of his pants and a Forbes magazine in his hand.

Amidst a bunch of bizarre sights, he goes on to lament his country's commercialism, apathy, and collective death wish ("We've got some time to kill, and we need a thrill/ So we die doing the dumbest of shit.").

The song is slated to appear in the "For Alba" episode, surrounded by a bunch of other animated skits, this Sunday (September 18). You can see the preview down below.

Father John Misty has a thing for Adult Swim, it'd seem. Earlier this year, he was one of many artists that got a chance to spice up the theme song for the station's Squidbillies program.

Additionally, the onetime Fleet Foxes drummer isn't the only musical celebrity to appear on Brad Neely's Harg Nallin' Sclopio Peepio this season. André 3000 had previously delivered a speech on "Human History."

Brad Neely had also brought Cat Power onto his old show, China, IL, as a self-aware, singing ape.
