Felix Da Housecat

Take the best bits of disco, house, techno, electro, and '80s pop, throw in male and female vocals, sometimes placed through a vocoder, or delivered in a dispassionate monotone, à la Human League. Sounds like a mess, but in this case it came out perfect. Felix Da Housecat, a long-time Detroit producer, aided by the French Miss Kitten and others on vocals, has crafted an album that is funky, poppy and catchy from beginning to end. Whether it's Miss Kitten singing on "Madame Hollywood," Felix singing on "Walk With Me" or their duet "Silver Screen, Shower Scene," these are great songs. There are also some great tracks, such as "Analog City," which sounds like a clash between ABBA and Daft Punk. The album is quite unique, as Kittenz And Thee Glitz is a true hybrid of all the dance styles of the last 30 years. You can expect 100 bands to copy it this year (some have already arrived), but 99 won't measure up. Like Daft Punk's Homework, you'll always remember the first time you heard this.
