The last we heard from Swedish sister duo First Aid Kit, the folksy act were just about to issue a seven-inch boasting covers of Buffy Sainte-Marie and Elmore James. Since then, the band holed themselves up in a recording studio with Bright Eyes member Mike Mogis to lay down the original tunes that will make up their next album, titled The Lion's Roar.
The album, which follows their 2010 set The Big Black and the Blue, was recorded in Omaha and features a full band backing Klara and Johanna Söderberg. The sisters' father Benkt plays bass and Mattias Bergqvist is on drums, while Mogis and Nate Walcott handle a number of instruments as well .
The Lion's Roar also features a collaboration with Bright Eyes main man Conor Oberst and the Felice Brothers on album track "King of the World." A full tracklisting has yet to be revealed, but other new tunes include "In the Hearts of Men," "Dance to Another Tune," "Wolf," "To a Poet," "New Year's Eve," and "Emmylou," a tribute to Emmylou Harris.
The Lion's Roar comes out January 24 in North America and a day earlier overseas via Wichita Records. You can peep a trailer for the album below.
