First Aid Kit to Release Third Man Records Single

There's been a lot of hustle and bustle over at Third Man Records over the past couple of months. Earlier this fall the Jack White-run label announced a limited-edition live album from late-night host Conan O'Brien, a bizarre triple-decker vinyl from White's Dead Weather, and a comedy record from comedian Reggie Watts, among other releases. There was also that awkward online battle between White and his fans over selling his own releases for some significant scratch. While it's too early to gauge whether or not this particular platter will fetch some hefty funds up on eBay, it's been announced that Swedish sister actFirst Aid Kit are the next outfit to get the Third Man seal of approval.

While earlier this year the dainty folksters delivered the mostly duetted debut album The Big Black and the Blue, a press release says that siblings Klara and Johanna Söderberg prepped another couple of songs at Third Man's studio that will appear on a seven-inch single early next year.

Hearkening back to their early days, which got the pair noticed for covering Fleet Foxes' "Tiger Mountain Peasant Song," the upcoming slab of vinyl finds them tipping their hats to a couple other artists. The A-side hosts their take on Buffy Sainte-Marie's "Universal Soldier," while the flip features a Karen Dalton-channelling interpretation of Elmore James's classic "It Hurts Me Too."

Set to be released January 18, you might want to get your hands on one of these quick before White rounds a bunch up to sell on the online auction circuit.
