Fishbones career, which began in the early 80s and continues to this day, has taken them from a ska band, to a funk band, to a metal band and then back to a funk band. Because of this any single record that purports to be the essential collection of Fishbones discography is going to be missing a large portion of the bands history. The Essential Collections approach to solving this problem is focusing on a specific part of Fishbones career; namely their earliest days of ska/funk fusion with the beginnings of their dabbling in metal. Because of this, the collection ignores all of Fishbones releases after 1991s The Reality of My Existence. Hits such as "Party at Ground Zero, "Ma and Pa and "Everyday Sunshine are included as well as more eclectic selections like "Lyin Ass Bitch and "A Movement in the Light but as an overview of Fishbones career The Essential Collection fails because it doesnt include any releases after 1991. For a better overview of Fishbones career, albeit at a higher price tag, check out Fishbone 101: Nuttasaurusmeg Fossil Fuelin' The Fonkay.
