Fishbone have been delivering doses of ska, punk, metal and funk since the '80s, and a recent documentary that covers the groundbreaking California outfit's long and varied career will soon be available on DVD.
Everyday Sunshine: The Story of Fishbone has already made the theatre circuit, but the Lev Anderson and Chris Metzler's film will pop up on DVD February 22 through Cinema Guild. iTunes will sell the film online starting February 1.
Narrated by actor Laurence Fishburne, the film is said to be an "entertaining cinematic journey into the personal lives of this unique black rock band, and an untold story of fiercely individual artists in their quest to reclaim their musical legacy while debunking the myths of young black men from urban America."
The story covers the members' early days on the streets of South Central Los Angeles and the band's rise during in the competitive Hollywood music scene of the '80s. It also goes on to outline "money woes, family strife, and the strain of being aging punk rockers on the road," while focusing on the relationship between founding members Angelo Moore (vocals) and Norwood Fisher (bass).
"Norwood and I are kind of like a married couple," Moore says in the trailer, which you can see below. "We wanna be divorced for a minute, but we can't because we're fucking married. We've got kids... that's the music."
On top of getting the story from the band's point of view, the film also features appearances from Gwen Stefani, Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea, Ice-T, Branford Marsalis, Off's Keith Morris, Jane's Addiction frontman Perry Farrell and the Roots' Questlove.
In addition to the trailer, check out the video for "Sunless Saturday," off their classic and critically acclaimed 1991 album The Reality of My Surroundings, below.
