It's been three long years since Pacific Northwest indie folk act Fleet Foxes released their Helplessness Blues LP. In that time, the group's J. Tillman quit the band and formed Father John Misty, while Fleet Foxes have remained mostly inactive. Now, the band's Robin Pecknold has come forward to explain their absence.
Posting an update to the band's Facebook page [via Consequence of Sound], Pecknold explained that he's dropped out of the indie band grind to go back to school. He also hinted that more material will eventually surface.
Here's his statement in full:
For anyone who's curious, this is a short Fleet Foxes update – been a while! So, after the last round of touring, I decided to go back to school. I never got an undergraduate degree, and this felt like the right time to both see what that was about and to try something new after a while in the touring / recording lifestyle. I moved to New York and enrolled at Columbia, and I've mostly been doing that, but I'm working on songs and excited for whatever happens next musically, even if it's down the line. Hope all is well out there.

We wish Pecknold all the best in his endeavours. After all, going to Columbia is likely a better use of his time than that LOLcats movie he was working on.
