Florence and the Machine

"Delilah"

BY Gregory AdamsPublished May 19, 2015

"I'm going to be free and I'm going to be fine, but maybe not tonight" — it's a somewhat positive exclamation from Florence Welch on "Delilah," the latest leak from her Florence and the Machine's upcoming How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful. Maybe everything will be okay once the album arrives in a couple of weeks.

The first half of the track plays especially spacious, with organ tones, open piano chords and vocals hanging in the ether. A hard-stomping drum pattern and handclaps flip the vibe, though, and help propel Welch's tale of danger. At various times, she uses her booming vibrato to detail either more tranquil moments spent popping-pills, or sending pillars tumbling down.

You'll find out more about the strength of "Delilah" by streaming it down below. The rest of Florence and the Machine's new LP lands June 2 through Republic Records/Island Records.
