Flourishing

New York City's Flourishing play some quality progressive death grind. Their crushing debut EP, A Momentary Sense of the Immediate World, features five tracks of extreme unorthodox aggression. The three-piece band, which features vocalist/guitarist Garett Bussanick (also of NYC's Wetnurse), have mashed up death metal and grindcore with a Gaza-esque hardcore touch. The EP is experimental, yet not overly technical, and has all of the fury of an unrelenting, brutal release. Starting with "Harvesting," A Momentary Sense of the Immediate World contains harsh, dissonant riffs paired with some very melodic twists and turns, especially on the unpredictable "Fixture." A dark, heavy atmosphere acts as an undercurrent throughout and fits with the band's insanely incoherent song structures. The killer "Feeling So At Ease" is an aneurysm-inducing experience that showcases Flourishing as an incredibly promising band from the NYC underground to be aware of.
