Thanks to the stellar Cosmogramma, cerebral beat-maker Flying Lotus is having himself a hell of year. But despite that "postmodernist space odyssey" already being a best-of-2010 shoe-in, the Cali producer (born Steven Ellison) is squeezing out another new release this fall, in the form of a seven-track EP.
The release is dubbed Pattern+Grid World and will come out on September 21 via Flying Lotus's current label home of Warp Records. According to the label, "While Cosmogramma is a monolithic convergence of 20th and 21st century musical forms, high in concept and wide in musical collaboration, Pattern+Grid World pulls the focus back to Steven Ellison and his machines." It then goes on to drop lines about "schizophrenic ping-ponging electro," "icy keys that could almost be mistaken for classic grime" and tracks that land "somewhere between vintage DJ Premier and Lee Hazelwood."
The close-up image of a psychedelic-lookin' creature above will serve as the EP's album art and you can see the tracklist below. Also, scroll down to the SoundCloud player and you can stream the new Pattern+Grid World track "Camera Day."
Along with the new release, FlyLo has several North American tour dates lined up, including a few in Canada. See all the dates below.
