Another day, another crossover collaboration: former Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist Josh Klinghoffer has joined Pearl Jam's live lineup.

On Saturday (September 18) at Asbury Park, NJ's Sea.Hear.Now festival, Klinghoffer took the stage with Eddie Vedder and co. for the first time, contributing guitar, keyboards, percussion and backing vocals to round out the band's live sound. Six songs into the headlining set, Vedder introduced the addition to Pearl Jam's touring lineup.

"A year and a half ago, we were ready to play. And we were excited to play! We had new songs to play," Vedder said on stage. "We were going to start touring quite a bit... it was one of the inside jokes of naming [Gigaton]. We thought we were going to be on the road for quite a bit."

Vedder added that one of the reasons why the band had been so excited to tour Gigaton was because they'd tapped a "great" opener: Klinghoffer's solo project, Pluralone.

"The opening band was going to be a friend of ours who just put out a great solo record," Vedder continued, "and we started working with him to also fill out some of the new songs."

Klinghoffer joined RHCP in 2009 to replace the flighty John Frusciante, and was dismissed upon Frusciante's 2019 return to the group — a firing Klinghoffer said "truly felt like a death." (But would Klinghoffer's barber leak info about the new Chili Peppers album, though?)

RHCP's Flea recently teamed up with Levi's to make "Fleavi's" so you can finally wear the bassist's face on your butt. Meanwhile, Vedder's gearing up to release his new solo album Earthling with new lead single "Long Way."
