Odd Future crooner Frank Ocean is set to release one of the most anticipated albums of the year with Channel Orange, due out on July 17.
But last night (July 3), he took to his Tumblr to address something completely besides his new music. In the liner notes to his forthcoming album, Ocean seemingly comes out as gay or bisexual, discussing his sexuality and revealing that he first fell in love with a man when he was 19.
Before offering up a lengthy statement, Ocean writes, "BASEDGOD WAS RIGHT. we're all a bunch of golden million dollar babies. my hope is that the babies born these days will inherit less of the bullshit than we did. anyhow, what i'm about to post is for anyone who cares to read. it was intended to fill the thank you's section in my album credits, but with all the rumors going round.. i figured it'd be good to clarify.. "
He then delivered the heartfelt liner notes, in which he explains a past relationship with another man and wrestles with his emotions. You can read the entire message here.
A central figure in Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All, who are notorious for attracting the wrath of LGBTQ organizations for their alleged homophobic lyrics, Ocean seemingly follows Syd the Kid as the second member to publicly come out.
Odd Future ringleader Tyler the Creator reacted on Twitter, posting: "Fucking Finally Sus Boy @frank_ocean Hahahaha, You Still Aint Got No Bitches Hahaha My Nigga Dawg," but then seemed to be a little more supportive when he followed it up by tweeting: "My Big Brother Finally Fucking Did That. Proud Of That Nigga Cause I Know That Shit Is Difficult Or Whatever. Anyway. Im A Toilet."
OFWGKTA protégé Earl Sweatshirt also chimed in with a simple: "Proud of frank."
Ocean's message is definitely a lot more eloquent. He ends it off by saying "I feel like a free man. If I listen closely.. I can hear the sky falling too."
