Freddie Gibbs & Madlib Are Already Plotting a 'Bandana' Follow-Up

Freddie Gibbs & Madlib are a week away from delivering their new collaborative album Bandana, and while the record has yet to arrive, the pair are already plotting a follow-up effort.

In conversation with Entertainment Weekly, Gibbs revealed that he'll be teaming with the elusive producer for a third album, set to complete a trilogy that also includes 2014's Piñata. While Gibbs didn't divulge a release date, he did share the title of the prospective third LP:

The duo may not strategize when it comes to making music together, but they do have one thing planned: a third album. "PiñataBandana, and Montana. It's a trilogy," says Gibbs. But could it be another five years before it sees the light of day, like the last one? "Maybe," says Madlib...Adds Gibbs about a release date, "We don't think about it." Like fine wine, it will take time.

Madlib also confirmed to EW that he had been at work on a new Black Star album with Yasiin Bey (f.k.a. Mos Def) and Talib Kweli, corroborating claims made by the former MC last year that a follow-up to their acclaimed Mos Def and Talib Kweli Are Black Star was on the way. The producer told the publication that eight tracks have been recorded for the yet-to-be-detailed effort so far.

Bandana arrives June 28 through Keep Cool/RCA Records & Madlib Invazion/ESGN. The album appearances from Pusha-T, Killer Mike, Yasiin Bey, Black Thought and more.

Ahead of the album's release, Gibbs and Madlib have shared singles "Giannis," "Crime Pays." "Bandana" and "Flat Tummy Tea."
