This excellent documentation of coming off the top of your dome isn't packed with that many big named MCs, and this is one of the reasons that Freestyle is such an interesting watch. It takes it back to the streets of the poets that don't have record contracts and are verbally expressing their surroundings amongst a circle, giving their all for the camera and displaying a skill that not every rapper possesses. Things are at their most entertaining during the battle sequences, especially when it comes down to the legendary exchanges between Supernatural and Craig G., but this film showcasing a much sought-after skill is engaging from start to finish. The DVD comes a little weak though, as the only bonus footage is more and more freestyles that grow tiresome quickly, though a lost segment with the mighty Aesop Rock, Slug and El-P dropping a verbal lesson is a must-watch.
