There are some great musicians and singers in this complex pop band from in town. Aley Waterman is the petite blonde mastermind behind Gala. She plays piano/synth and sings moody tunes that go from measured to mathematical with swift precision. The band she has conjures ambient patterns and the rhythms have a vague post-rock tinge to them, which shakes their dance-pop foundation.

Waterman seems quite fresh in her musical execution; there's wonder in her eyes as she plays, but she also clearly trusts herself and the ideas she's bringing into the world, most of which have dramatic flair and emotional heft. But then the more propulsive, groove-oriented songs are body rockin' and the set becomes difficult to easily compartmentalize. It was memorable and I liked it, but it made me feel a lot of different things in 45 minutes. I'm not sure how I feel about that.
