After hitting us up with The B-sides earlier this year, heartland rockers the Gaslight Anthem have announced they'll have a batch of new tunes for fans this summer. Their Get Hurt arrives August 19 through Island.
The 11-song set is the group's first LP of new material since 2012's Handwritten and marks their fifth studio album overall. It was recorded at Blackbird Studios in Nashville with producer Mike Crossey (Arctic Monkeys, Foals).
You can check the tracklisting down below, and peep the topsy-turvy cartoon heart that serves as its cover art up above.
Judging by recent comments singer/guitarist Brian Fallon made to Rolling Stone about the set, the cover art is poignant in relation to the album's personal lyrics.
"I'll probably continue to write about heartbreak forever," he said. "That stuff doesn't go away as you get older. You're always trying to make each record more autobiographical than the last one. Before it was a lot of storytelling with lots of specific places and names. This time I wrote a lot of direct first-person narratives. You're talking about yourself, so you have to find new way to do that each time, so for this record it was a lot of poetry books and a lot of Bob Dylan."
According to Fallon, the record also apparently features "the heaviest, most aggressive music we've ever recorded," and also offers up tracks that are "completely different than anything we had ever done before." The frontman, for instance, noted that "Underneath the Ground" is "the first song I have ever written that had nothing to do with the guitar," having been conceived using a Fender Rhodes piano.
To get a taste of what's to come, you can check out a sneak peek of a new song driven by a distortion-blaring blues rawk riff in the album trailer down below.
