First somebody tracked down the bridge from "Under the Bridge," and now a "geo detective" appears to have found the exact swimming pool that appears on the Red Hot Chili Peppers' iconic 1999 album cover for Californication.
YouTuber GeoWizard — who uses Google Earth to research locations from photographs — began searching for the Californication pool in the summer of 2024, after a Chili Peppers fan reached out to him for help locating it.
Using a couple of photos of the pool that have popped up online, as well as the small detail that the home belonged to the parents of a childhood friend of cover design Lawrence Azerrad, GeoWizard deduced that it was most likely a south-facing pool on a ridge in the Hollywood Hills. He went about scouring L.A. canyons on Google Earth, devoting many hours to his search.
In the end, it was actually the Chili Peppers fan who reached out to him who found the pool, discovering that it was located at 2227 Summitridge Drive in Beverley Hills.
The fan found it by going through the Hollywood Hills from house to house; GeoWizard missed it when scanning over the area because the pool has been empty at many points in the past 25 years, meaning that it would have been difficult to recognize it as a swimming pool at all.
Watch GeoWizard's video below — and, as he points out, this is a house where people presumably live, so please don't bother the current residents!
