While Prince's music has no doubt been blasting quite funkily through home speakers, car stereos and smartphone earbuds since he passed away in April, the Purple One's hits may also soon be heard in a Broadway musical.
Nothing has been set in stone just yet, but Prince's manager Charles Koppelman and lawyer L Londell McMillan, who have been tasked with handling the Artist's entertainment assets, say a Broadway show filled with various hits is one of the many posthumous possibilities they have in mind. Alternately, they suggest that Prince's music be used for a Cirque du Soleil show.
"We're going to be having a good time," Koppelman told Page Six. "There is so much to be done with this estate. There are vaults full of music."
Koppelman and McMillan were selected to manage the assets by Bremer Trust, a court-approved administrator of the estate of Prince, because of their work with the musician in the past. Koppelman began working with Prince in the '90s, having signed him to EMI ahead of releasing triple-LP Emancipation.
"Prince was an icon on the level of the Beatles and Michael Jackson, and his legacy should be honoured," Koppelman added. "Though his name was Prince, I always thought he was the king of music."
Koppelman and McMillan's plans for the rest of Prince's massive vault of unreleased recordings have yet to be revealed, but the Artist had been rumoured to have been recording up until his death in April.
