While it's hard to know what caused the sudden disillusionment, celebrated coke rap progenitor and beloved OG Wu-Tang member Ghostface Killah has announced that his next album will see him shy away from the drug slingin', gang bangin' raps of previous efforts.
In an interview with Hip Hop Connection, the rapper explained his change in content, saying, "I don't sell crack, yo. I ain't movin' no bricks or none of that other shit. I ain't shoot nobody in like... since the early '90s, man. How long you gonna be 40 years old and actin' like you still sellin' crack and you on the block and you doin' this and you doin' that when times is more serious, man. We in a fuckin' recession, B! Ain't nobody gettin' no money, man!"
Though in some ways this confession makes him seem less sincere, it can also be viewed as a confessional. Not only is Killah admitting that he once sold crack, but he's also 'fessing up to capping people who gave him trouble. Insane!
Instead, Ghostface's next record, while currently untitled, is said to be an R&B effort not unlike his collaborations with crooner Ne-Yo. "It's my last album [for Def Jam] so I wanted to do the album I always wanted to do, man," he said. "You gotta tell the fans that you not gettin' no younger here - we gettin' older!"
