Glasser

Ring

Hopefully, Cameron Mesirow has some rubbery skin. Her work as Glasser can't exist without someone comparing it to the likes of Bat For Lashes, Fever Ray or Björk, but Ring should convince folks that there's room for another singular female artist. Her debut album was recorded partially on GarageBand, though you wouldn't know it judging by the way the strings slide like melted butter down the rumbling polyrhythms on the dazzling "Home." Maybe that has something to do with Van Rivers and the Subliminal Kid (Fever Ray, Blonde Redhead), and Ariel Rechshaid (Cass McCombs), who helped touch up her recordings. As a result, Ring has a magnificent, gleaming lustre, as if she gave birth to these songs in the middle of the rainforest. If anything, Panda Bear is the closest contemporary she has; Glasser's multi-textured arrangements levitate on synthesizers, percussive apparatuses (chimes, drum machines, vibraphone), brass and most importantly, that opulent voice, until they swell into spinning, hypnotic energy. The market might be saturated with leftfield artists posturing as something they're not, but Glasser is the real thing, and Ring is her testimony.
