The Go! Team Bring Best Coast on Board for New LP

It sure seems like Best Coast's Bethany Cosentino is beach pop's "it" girl these days. Though she's plenty busy promoting her debut album Crazy for You, the California chanteuse has managed to nab a number of high-profile guest spots, from her Converse collaboration with Kid Cudi and Vampire Weekend's Rostam Batmanglij to today's (October 15) announcement that she was working on material with Weezer head honcho Rivers Cuomo. Clearly crazy for collaborations, the musical hook-ups just keep coming with news that she will also be featured on UK outfit the Go! Team's new album.

In an interview with Pitchfork, Go! Team main man Ian Parton explains that he's been fond of Best Coast for a while and actually poached Cosentino's pipes for a couple of tunes on their upcoming album Rolling Blackouts before the hype hit.

"We actually did it ages ago," Parton told Pitchfork of the collaboration. "That was recorded in late '09, so nobody had heard of her when I asked her to do it. I'm pretty pleased that she's gone on to do well. I'm a real fan of Best Coast and that California feel. The song on which she sings has a jangly, girls-in-the-garage feel to it; it's super-melodic."

While the interview doesn't specify a tracklisting or which songs Cosentino sings on, Parton does impart that the disc features a couple other special guests, including wacky Deerhoof vocalist Satomi Matsuzaki and energetic lady MC Dominique Young Unique. Parton promises Rolling Blackouts will be an all-over-the-map affair, which should come as no surprise to fans of the sample-heavy act's previous sonic collages.

"There's quite a few different kinds of songs on the album, and not self-consciously so," Parton explains. "That's the way it happened - just always getting bored and going in nine different directions at the same time. From day to day, my favourite music's always changing, so I guess that kind of comes out."
