Goblin's 'Amo non amo' Soundtrack Treated to Vinyl Reissue

BY Brock ThiessenPublished Jan 30, 2014

Last year was a pretty amazing one for Goblin fans. Not only did the horror-prog titans head out on their first-ever North American tour, but they released a great EP of newly recorded classics to boot. While the band will apparently be announcing more live activity in 2014, they are getting their year going by unveiling a vinyl reissue of their hard-to-find Amo non amo score.

The upcoming reissue arrives via AMS, which has expertly handled a number of previous Goblin reissues in recent years, and is due on February 28.

The soundtrack was originally released for Italian director Armenia Balducci's 1979 film Amo non amo. Strangely enough, when the film was released overseas it came with an orchestral score written by Burt Bacharach, while the original soundtrack was composed by Goblin.

The press release explains: "The compositions of Amo non amo are varied, alternating melancholy and intimate pieces with hard rock and funky songs, but retaining the unmistakable 'Goblin touch' thanks to the presence of the classic Claudio Simonetti, Fabio Pignatelli, Agostino Marangolo, assisted by talented Carlo Pennisi (formerly of Flea, Etna, Libra and then in New Perigeo) on guitar and Antonio Marangolo's saxophone, a regular collaborator of the band."

The vinyl reissue will see Goblin's scored published in its entirety on vinyl, along with some newly discovered musical pieces from the film. One of those is "Amo non amo ('Notte' alternate mix)," which originally appeared on the Goblin album Il fantastico viaggio del Bagarozzo Mark.

The reissue also comes with some newly designed cover art (see above) done by Giant's Lab and contains liner notes penned by Goblin experts Fabio Capuzzo and Roberto Attanasio.

You can see the reissue's tracklist below.

While it will undoubtedly be available at a variety of North American record shops, if you're extra keen, you can order a deluxe — though pricey — limited-edition version here. It's limited 120 copies and promises different artwork (entirely handmade in silkscreen-printing by the Giant's Lab) and splattered multicolour vinyl.

In some related news, Goblin member Maurizio Guarini, who now lives in Toronto, will be playing Spookey Ruben's Dizzy Playground variety show at the city's Rivoli on February 18. You can get more info about the show here.
