Godspeed You! Black Emperor's Efrim Manuel Menuck Announces Debut Solo Album

BY Josiah HughesPublished Apr 12, 2011

While best known for the highly political symphonic rock of his groups Godspeed You! Black Emperor and Thee Silver Mount Zion, Montreal-based multi-instrumentalist Efrim Manuel Menuck is also a veteran collaborator and co-founder of the legendary Hotel2Tango studio. Now 13 albums into his career, Menuck is adding "solo artist" to that list, as he's announced his first solo effort under his birth name.

The album is titled Plays "High Gospel" and sees Menuck combine his penchant for forward-thinking guitar theatrics with his skillful production work and heartfelt songwriting. A press release explains that Plays "High Gospel" serves as "a powerful and personal album that serves as an ode to his adopted Montreal hometown (where he has now lived for two decades), the passing of great friends (Vic Chesnutt, Emma) and new fatherhood."

Constellation Records will release Plays "High Gospel" on May 24. The album will be available on CD and 180g vinyl.
