Great Bloomers Call It Quits, Announce Final Toronto Show

BY Alex HudsonPublished Sep 25, 2013

Toronto roots-rock combo Great Bloomers signed with Dine Alone Records last year and released their album Distant Fires, but despite this apparent progress, the band have announced that they're calling it quits. Their final show will be a Toronto's Horseshoe Tavern on November 16.

In a statement on Facebook, the members said that they intend to continue pursuing music separately. There's no indication of any tension or personal disagreements within the band; rather, it seems that the five-piece are seeking a fresh start. The decision to split was apparently reached months ago.

Two versions of the band will perform at the last-ever show on November 16: the most recent lineup will headline, while the original version of the band (which existed from 2007 to 2009) will open up. Wish are also on the bill.

Great Bloomers released two albums — 2009's Speak of Trouble and 2012's Distant Fires — in addition to a self-titled 2008 EP and a couple of 7-inches. Read their breakup statement below:

After 6 long years of writing, rehearsing, touring, recording, and having obscene amounts of fun — it is with a heavy heart that I must announce: Great Bloomers will be gracefully coming to an end. This decision was made mutually by the entire band months ago and we all just feel that the time is right...

We would like to thank anyone and everyone who has helped us along the way / housed us / fed us / shared any kind words with us. We would also like to assure everyone that each member of Great Bloomers is still pursuing music as a life path and in no way is this the end of our musical careers. We feel that it's time to start a new chapter in our lives... A sort of blank slate in which to reinvent ourselves, rethink our approach, and create new and exciting sounds for everyone's ears.

So, be sure to watch for our new projects and if you feel so inclined, check them out with an open mind. We truly love anyone who has supported us and we'll never forget the times we have had playing and partying with you all.

Finally, we will be playing one last show on November 16th at the Horseshoe Tavern. This will be an extremely special show as the opening band will be the ORIGINAL 2007-2009 GREAT BLOOMERS line up, as well as our friends in WISH and finally your boys. Come out and have one last hurrah with us... It wouldn't be the same without you.
