Green Day

Shenanigans

BY Stuart GreenPublished Sep 1, 2002

Now if only these poster boys for mainstream alterna-rock could make music like this all the time they wouldn't be considered such a blight on the punk rock landscape. This post-Lookout! Records collection of 14 B-sides, outtakes, covers and one new track shows that when they put their mind to it the trio can still make some of the stiffest Buzzcocks-inspired melodic punk around. You have to wonder why they would leave tracks like "Desensitized," "Don't Want To Fall In Love" and "Sick of Me" off their four major label records when so much filler crap was included on them. In the words of Hüsker Dü, it makes no sense at all.
