Following the news that rapper Guru was in a coma after suffering a heart attack this weekend, his Gang Starr cohort DJ Premier has given fans a status update. Today (March 2) on Twitter, Premier wrote, "Good news: Guru surgery was successful, keep sending him love."
While this brief statement is the only news of Guru's condition we have to go on at this time, it is good news nonetheless.
As previously reported, 43-year-old Guru (born Keith Elam) suffered a heart attack Sunday (February 28) and was set to undergo surgery yesterday (March 1).
Support has come in for Guru across the Internet, including from label-mate MC Solar, who said in a recent statement, "Guru is struggling with a serious health issue. We, the whole 7 Grand Records family, appreciate all your love and well wishes. We continue to hold out hope that Guru will make a full recovery from this. We ask that his privacy on this matter be respected. Again, thank you for all your support through this trying time."
UPDATE: As FACT points out, the Twitter account mentioned above is not actually run by DJ Premier and serves as the "DJ Premier Blog." However, according to the UK publication, "Guru is, right now, apparently in a med-induced coma, breathing with machine help."
