Yesterday (November 3), metal fans learned the sad news that Gwar guitarist Cory Smoot, best known for playing the character Flattus Maximus, had been found dead. At the time, it was unclear whether or not Smoot's passing would result in cancelled shows. Now, the band have confirmed that they will play tonight's (November 4) scheduled date in Edmonton.
The news of the confirmed Edmonton show comes from the Edmonton Journal [via Brooklyn Vegan], but it's still unclear whether or not the band will play their other Canadian and U.S. stops.
Gwar are due to perform in Calgary on Saturday (November 5) and Vancouver on Monday (November 7). They are then scheduled to return to the U.S. for a run of gigs that will last until last November.
At this point, however, the band have made no official statement as to the status of the remaining dates.
Smoot was 34 when he died and previously played with bands like Misguided and Locus Factor. He was also involved in Mensrea and his solo gig the Cory Smoot Experiment.
