It's been over two years since we learned Cro-Mags founder/bassist Harley Flanagan had inked a deal with the venerable Southern Lord to issue an LP with his Harley's War, but it looks as if the long wait for the hardcore icon's new album may soon be over. According to the label, Flanagan is currently recording the album, with a due date expected sometime late this year
A press release confirms that Flanagan and a group of musicians have hit a recording studio to lay down the basic tracks for the as-yet-unnamed LP, which follows Harley's War's 2002 debut, Cro-Mag. Earlier this year, a new song called "Trust No One" began making the rounds, with a YouTube listing explaining that bass, drums and rhythm guitars had been recorded at Victory Sound studios and vocals and lead guitar were tracked at Hoboken, NJ's HoboRico studios by Pete Thompson. Flanagan has been handling production duties.
Not much else is known about the set beyond that, but Flanagan issued a statement on the status of the album, saying: "I think that this is some of the hardest stuff I have written in a long time. God knows there has been a lot of inspiration over the last few years."
Southern Lord owner Greg Anderson added, "The demos we have heard thus far are incredible!"
After first announcing the album in 2012, Flanagan made headlines later that year over an alleged stabbing incident backstage at a New York concert involving former Cro-Mags bandmates. Flanagan had been accused of stabbing William Berardo and Michael Couls with a hunting knife, and biting Couls, while the musician claimed he had been ambushed and acted in self-defence.
