After already having lost vocalist Peter Dolving last winter, long-running Swedish metal act the Haunted have suffered another blow with news that both guitarist Anders Björler and drummer Per Møller Jensen have exited the troupe as well.
Guitarist Patrik Jensen confirmed the membership shake-up in a statement on the group's website, explaining that there was no drama behind the departures.
"No animosity whatsoever caused these events, nor are there any other feelings than that they will both be dearly missed," he wrote. "We wish them all the best in whatever, and wherever, their future endeavors will take them.
Björler admitted in a statement of his own that he had been thinking about the move for quite some time now, especially after Dolving left the band for the second time last February. Dolving had sung on the Haunted's self-titled debut in 1998 before exiting the band the same year. He later rejoined in 2003.
"This is not a sudden or hasty decision. I have been contemplating it for the last couple of years," Björler confirmed. "Peter's departure earlier this year made me more certain than ever that I had reached my personal goal with the Haunted, and that the time was right to call it quits. I have enjoyed every bit of the ride. It's been an overwhelming journey."
For his part, Per Møller Jensen said that Dolving's exit made no impact on his decision to leave the Haunted, but rather explained that he's ready to tackle something new.
"My penchant for music, creating — as in digging deep — and practicing has never been at a higher peak than now," he said. "When you throw musical differences between members in with that, I started feeling unfulfilled. This is not pointing fingers at anybody, but rather just seeing, accepting and acting on that fact."
Patrik Jensen went on to note that the Haunted are now composed of just him and bassist Jonas Björler, and they currently have no clue what will happen to the band, which formed in 1996. "We are still committed to the the Haunted. However, in the light of these recent events, we honestly don't know what will happen. We hope for your appreciation of our current situation, and for your patience."
If the band do continue on, this could be the perfect time to re-evaluate the project. The Haunted's last LP was 2011's rock-geared Unseen, which Exclaim! critiqued as featuring "the worst of radio-ready grunge" and other such "ugly results."
