Hear the Week's Best New Canadian Music: Zoon, Haviah Mighty, Daniel Caesar, Zeina

BY Exclaim! StaffPublished Jan 27, 2023

Not to open by talking about the weather, but it's finally starting to feel like we're getting over the hazy January greys. This week's best new Canadian music is a burst of much-needed sonic sunshine — and even when it conjures clouds, they're far more interesting than the endless blur of sepia-toned skies.

Zoon return with new album news and a plea to hold onto their language and Haviah Mighty orders "Room Service," while Daniel Caesar bluntly begs the question and Zeina effortlessly brushes it off.

This week in album releases, we have Jonah Yano and Fucked Up (One Day) bringing a pair of our most anticipated Canadian albums of 2023 into the world. Elsewhere, Bestfriend have a song about anxious people that's totally not self-inspired, Benja leans into the slack and Em & Dzeej confront intergenerational trauma, all while announcing new EPs. There are also album announcements from Matt Andersen, Bodywash, Tim Hecker and PACKS.

The forecast for the year ahead is finally looking a little brighter with The Eh! List below, presented by Mary Brown's Chicken & Taters — all Canadian and proud of it!
