After teasing new material with Run the Jewels upon the announcement of his forthcoming LP The Mountain Will Fall, legendary producer DJ Shadow has lifted the curtain on the collaborative cut ahead of the record's release.
The songs features the dynamic duo of Killer Mike and El-P over a laid-back beat highlighted by hooky guitar and bass scales, as well as knocking drums. As he told Pitchfork earlier this month, despite having known and worked with El-P for over 20 years, the collaboration marked their first time in studio together.
"Occasionally, I make a beat that demands a specific vocal treatment and attitude," Shadow said. "In the case of 'Nobody Speak,' I wasn't going to settle for anyone other than Run the Jewels; in my mind, it was them or no one. Fortunately, they agreed, and they took the track to a place I could never get to on my own. That's the definition of a rewarding collaboration."
El-P added: "Shadow is a legend and a friend. When he makes music he often changes music forever. When he asked us to jump on the record we didn't blink."
The Mountain Will Fall arrives on June 24 through Mass Appeal. Hear "Nobody Speak" in the player below.
