Calgary singer-songwriter and harpist Jennifer Crighton has announced a new album under her eerie folk project, Hermitess.
The independently released record, Death & the Fool, is out May 1, and the folkloric lead single "Green Blade" is out now, accompanied by a music video. The new album marks her first release in nearly five years, following her Celestial EP.
Crighton draws inspiration from her Orkney Island ancestry, the unpredictable seasonal shifts of Alberta, and re-imagined Christian hymns, as a press release notes. It further points out that the project was conceived as a "sonic ritual" and "traces the ever-turning wheel of life, reminding us that even in death, the story continues."
Give Hermitess's "Green Blade" a listen below, and stay tuned for further album details.
