High Places Reveal Details on Debut Album, Plot Tour

BY Josiah HughesPublished Jun 27, 2008

Brooklyn duo High Places (aka Mary Pearson and Robert Barber) must have some friends in some moderately-leveled, indie-approved places, as they’ve garnered a whole bunch of buzz on some limited releases and touring.

All that will change soon, as Thrill Jockey have announced the details of their debut, self-titled album. Due in September, the album will continue their hard-to-pin sound that the label attempts to explain as: "High Places songs contain a fascinating range of aural layers: bells and bird calls over a wash of ocean waves; mallets hitting mixing bowls over treated guitar and glockenspiel; Mary’s reflective vocals over Rob’s inventive and infectious beats. The result is an imaginative and spacious amalgamation of sounds with a unique almost Caribbean undertone that is as immediate as it is refreshing.”

If you can’t wait until September, Thrill Jockey will also be issuing 03/07 – 09/07, a collection of the band’s early work, on July 22. Don’t miss them on tour with No Age and Abe Vigoda this summer.
