Holy Ghost!

"Hold On"

A MySpace search alone shows new DFA signings Holy Ghost! could be strong-armed into a name change in the near future, unless that exclamation point holds up in court as their mark of distinction. But until that day comes, we should just sit back and take in this joyous feel-good disco homage prepared by Nicholas Millhiser and Alexander Frankel. The duo hooked up with Tim Goldsworthy and James Murphy for their debut as Automato, a hipster rap outfit once signed to Capitol. But once that fizzled, they were vacuumed into the label's production roster, which led Millhiser and Frankel to tour as the Juan McLean's band and eventually branch out for themselves as a full-on disco act. "Hold On" certainly carries the DFA stamp, as the analog synths bubble up through the 4/4 beat patterns and - by this I mean no offence - carefree, yet rather superficial lyrics. Remixers will have a field day with the plentiful grooves in this single, and I imagine the track is mopping up the sweat-stained dance floors of clubs all over NYC and beyond.
