Toronto's Housewife — the alt-pop project of Brighid Fry — has followed up 2022's You'll Be Forgiven with Girl of the Hour, a six-track EP that expands on their buzzy guitar-forward songwriting.
The EP's arrival comes with the single "Matilda," which Fry says is about getting their bike stolen a few years ago. "Obviously, the song isn't just about a bike, but also an allegory for grief and loss, and missing something or someone you can't have anymore," they said in a press release. "I think everyone, cyclists or not, can relate to that grief, and the struggle of moving on from things in their past, as I still haven't replaced the bike to this day."
Elsewhere on the EP, Fry uses their queer identity, situationships with friends and and other inward experiences as a diary over gain-heavy guitars that evoke the likes of beabadoobee and Grace Ives.
Girl of the Hour comes ahead of Housewife's appearance at JUNOfest later this month. Listen to Girl of the Hour and watch the music video for "Matilda" below.
