How to Dress Well's airy, snap-assisted "Running Back" was one of the many standouts from last year's Total Loss, and now Montreal beatsmith CFCF has juiced up the track with an extra-bouncy new beat.
Taking influence from '90s dance pop, CFCF's redo features a peppy, new jack swing-styled rhythm to complement the breathy harmonies coming out of How to Dress Well main man Tom Krell. Also added to the track is a loose-lipped rap from Cadence Weapon offering hindsight observations on a girl he had thought could be "the one."
"I chose "Running Back" because I wanted to give it a bit of swing," CFCF said in a statement. "When I realized the song needed a verse to round things out and give it the properly Janet vibe I was going for, I asked the man Cadence Weapon to rap on it. So here is a suitably Montreal-vibed new jack swing smoothed out rendition."
