A month after detailing his forthcoming Care LP, How to Dress Well (a.k.a. Tom Krell) has shared another taste of what's to come from the new record with "What's Up."
Produced by CFCF and featuring additional production from Kara-Lis Coverdale, Krell's latest upbeat track opens with strings and piano before giving way to his his voice. "When my body's gone tell em what made me sing / Say it was you / I said it was you," he sings.
"Recently I've been feeling like our artistic culture hyper-invests in seriousness and leaves all pleasure and fun to be taken care of by basically banal forms of pop — and those don't really yield pleasure and fun in any deep way," Krell explained in a statement. "For me, I don't think everything needs to be serious to be profound. With 'What's Up,' I wanted to just dig into the idea that fun and pleasure can be profound, or just be fun and pleasure, and that can be profound in its own way."
Care arrives on September 23 through Domino. Hear "What's Up" in the player below.
