Ice Cube Says Dr. Dre Issuing New LP This Week

With N.W.A. biopic Straight Outta Compton about to hit theatres, there's been plenty of interest in what the iconic L.A. outfit are up to in the present day. Following a recent onstage reunion from most of its members, rapper Ice Cube now says that live show holdout Dr. Dre is about to drop a new LP.

Ice Cube's confession came this morning (July 29) in an interview with Philadelphia radio station Power 99 [via Consequence of Sound], where the rapper made mention of an as-yet untitled Dre project popping up on August 1. Reportedly, it's an album of material inspired by the film, which, we'll note, was itself inspired by his time with the band.

"It's mega, you know, it's Dr. Dre, it's what everybody been waiting for," Ice Cube told Power 99. "It's definitely a dope record, and he's dropping it all on the same day. It's crazy."

Dr. Dre has not yet confirmed the release on his end. If true, it'll be his first full-length effort since 1999's 2001. It's still unclear if the record is the rapper/producer's long-delayed Detox.

Additionally, the interview has Ice Cube weighing in on rumours that an N.W.A. reunion tour is in the works, to which he replied, "there's a possibility for sure."

"We've definitely been talking about it," he said. "It's just really about promoters coming to the table and we put together something that works for everybody. It's definitely, definitely possible."

As previously reported, Ice Cube hit the stage with N.W.A.'s Yella and MC Ren at last month's BET Experience at Los Angeles' Staples Center. Dr. Dre, however, did not appear.

You can watch the full interview in the video down below. He starts talking about the reunion tour and the new Dre LP around the ten-minute mark.

As for Straight Outta Compton, it hits theatres on August 14.
