Impetuous Ritual

Relentless Execution of Ceremonial Excrescence

BY Denise FalzonPublished Mar 8, 2010

Yet another stellar band on Profound Lore's almost pristine roster, Australia's Impetuous Ritual feature two members of experimental death metal masterminds Portal. With the release of their debut, Relentless Execution of Ceremonial Excrescence, Impetuous Ritual sonically manifest a diabolical, organized noise. While sharing some of Portal's elements of dark, murky, doom-laden tones, Impetuous Ritual's sound is less sporadic and much more brutal. Beastly guitars and thrashing drums make for some deeply vicious tracks, while dirge-loaded rhythms permeate the album. This combination of corrosive death metal and sludgy doom is what creates the band's menacing atmosphere, which is clearly influenced by the likes of Incantation and Disembowelment. Much like Portal's Swarth, Impetuous Ritual's Relentless Execution of Ceremonial Excrescence is an album that you'll either love or hate, but it's the modernity of it all that should be appreciated regardless.
