Indigo Girls have announced plans for their first album in five years, Look Long. Before the record arrives April 24 via Rounder, they will also head out on an extensive North American tour, including a couple stops in Canada.
When it came time to record the new album, Indigo Girls wanted to approach the process pressure-free, heading out to Peter Gabriel's Real World Studio in England and reuniting with the same band they recorded with for 1999's Come On Now Social. Getting to work on Long Look, they agreed that "whatever happens in the studio will happen."
Emily Saliers elaborated in a statement: "People can feel lost in these times. Let's lament our limitations, but let's also look beyond what's right in front of us, take the long view of things, and strive to do better."
Long Look will mark the band's follow-up to 2015's One Lost Day.
This March, Indigo Girls will commence their 30-date North American trek in support of the new record. Kicking off in Rocky Mount, VA, they'll spend the better part of spring touring the eastern seaboard, before making their way inland for another run of stops that includes Toronto and Calgary in July. The tour wraps up in mid-September at Chattanooga's Moon River Music Festival.
In addition to the tour and album announcements, Indigo Girls have shared a new single titled "Shit Kickin'" from Long Look, a song produced by the band's longtime collaborator John Reynolds.
