Ingrid Gatin

'1000 Lives' (album stream)

BY Kristen KerstnerPublished Jan 31, 2013

It's been a few years since Manitoba local Ingrid Gatin's debut album Broken Tambourine pleased our ears, but the long wait will soon be over. The soulful singer is set to deliver her second full length album 1000 Lives February 5 via Pipe & Hat, but you can stream the whole album right here and now at Exclaim.ca.

Produced by Howard Bilerman (Arcade Fire, Basia Bulat, The Dears), the accordion toting songstress delivers 11 romantic tracks crediting her innovation to her prairie upbringing and her aunt who taught her to play piano.

Back in December we got a taste of 1000 Lives with Gatin's pop-waltz single "Slow Dancing." Like that track, Gatin's album uses her powerful, stirring vocals to tell what her release describes as "an elegant and introspective tale of love and freedom compiled over the last three years of travel." Other tracks that stand out include the accordion-aided "Climb Climb Climb," and "I Built This Song," which, despite its use of weepy violins and Gatin's sultry vocals, is still the most upbeat track on the album.

Ingrid Gatin will kick off a sizeable Canadian tour in February, starting in Quebec City, rounding the Maritimes, and then heading west through the Prairies and British Columbia. She'll be in Toronto at this year's Folk Alliance Conference from February 20-24. Check out her new album 1000 Lives, and her tour dates, below.
