Le Son 666 is a brand spanking new CD-R label from Montreal and, judging by the sounds of its first release, this self-titled debut from four-piece electronische sound sculptors Intercom, it’s definitely a label worth watching. Intercom begin their debut by exhibiting an instantly mesmerising sound informed by the eerie early ’70s psychedelic synth evocations of Tangerine Dream and Klaus Schulze, but quickly move on to incorporate more modern elements of electronic noise assault, glitch smattering, and bass-bin vibrations. But things hardly settle into this groove long enough to grow moss; "Gai 90’s Pinto Pop” does vital-era Autechre better than the British duo do on their own latest effort, with live drums thrown into the introduction, no less; "Meritas” is a Boards of Canada-esque slow-burner that relishes in its analogue splendour; "I Puked a Rainbow” is playful and captivating electro-acoustic randomness; and "Nama” slurs garbled vocals over a dying accordion to create something oddly beautiful. This is stirring and fresh retroactivity from a provocative young group that deserves to be heard.
