Ion Dissonance

Cursed

BY Denise FalzonPublished Aug 23, 2010

After a three-year hiatus, Montreal, QC death/tech metal specialists Ion Dissonance are back with their fourth full-length effort, Cursed. Although not as crushing as Breathing Is Irrelevant ― the band's 2003 debut ― Cursed features a return to their original sound. The album contains the band's trademark unpredictable song structures, unorthodox time signatures and heavy drum blasts, as well as frenetic riffs and dynamic leads by guitar duo Antoine Lussier and Sebastien Chaput. Picking up exactly where they left off on their astounding 2005 album, Solace, Ion Dissonance display a return to form, particularly on "You People Are Messed Up" and "After Everything That's Happened, What Did You Expect?," which demonstrate the band's classic angst-ridden approach. Cursed is chaotic, mathematical and brutal, which are the key elements that were missing on Ion Dissonance's previous release, the lacklustre Minus The Herd. "This Is The Last Time I Repeat Myself" is another noteworthy track, and features Despised Icon vocalist Alex Erian.
