Iron & Wine

'Archive Series Volume No. 1' (album stream)

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Feb 17, 2015

As previously reported, Sam Beam is all set to explore his career as Iron & Wine in his new Archive Series of unreleased recordings. The first peek at his early days officially lands February 24 through Beam's Black Cricket Recording Co., but you can get an earful of the set online right now.

The collection of home recordings targets the same time period that produced Iron & Wine's 2002 debut The Creek Drank the Cradle. A couple highlights including an arrangement of back porch banjo plucking and whispers on the haunting "Slow Back River," a McIntosh apple crisp character analysis called "Eden," the breezy, foot-stomping bounce of "Your Sly Smile," the keep-the-lights-on sensuality of "Halfway to Richmond" and more.

You'll find all of the intimate demo-style recordings down below, courtesy of Billboard.
